Its not always sunny down here!

They forecast a weather bomb, was snowing almost all day but only settled late in the afternoon. Nice big fluffy snow flakes!
Good chance for me to show you our surrounds.

We live on a nice quiet coldesaq and have views of mountains all around, usually..

Couldn't resist the colours - reminded me of the snow covered Douglas Fur pinecones in Canada

This is the view from our backyard. You can kind of see the lake to the left of the house.

Last training ride

Jesse has his passenger license now, this was a beautiful day after a storm the week before he 'went live'.

This is looking south towards Paradise.

'China mans hole' with Mt Earnslaw in the background. I really like the rocks at this spot - lots of colours and interesting patterns. This is as far as they have been taking the boats at the moment because of the low winter water level.

The boat is packed up with fun-yaks for weight.
Fun-yaking is a really cool day trip they offer - jet boat up the river and 'fun-yak' down. (in case you are wondering they are blow up kayaks)

Scott Basin

Day trip, nice walk up to this basin, a bit of variety. Great spots to camp as well. We started early and the clouds kept rolling over, wasn't a nice day for spotting animals/taking photos.

Jesse, sporting his new jacket

You can see the huge basin behind us. Was an easy clamber up the rocks/tussock. I was pleasantly surprised!
Really cool terrain.
I now understand that when go for walks, I must take the camera because Jess will want to have a look around and I need something to do...
On the way back down the skies were blue down the valley. Sign said 3-4 hours each way, probably took us 2 up 2 down.

Up there with my favour so far, will be back with a tent in summer!

Morning Sunshine

I just love living in Glenorchy on days like this... I finally had the chance to get some nice morning photos of these great gy landmarks
These photos are facing north, during winter the sun is usually in the way of getting a good photo of these mountains behind the lagoon.
Mt Alfred is the middle/tree covered triangle, Mt Earnslaw is on it's left.
I like the perspective this shot adds...

Up and over Mt Alfred

Same goregous day
went for an afternoon stroll to the top of a mountain with Mandy
Lake Whakatipu in the background and the Dart River on the right

This is the view looking up the valley. Routeburn valley on the left next to the Dart River and Mt Ernslaw on the right just past Diamond Lake
We didn't realise there would be snow at the top!
We decided to go down the other side towards paradise...
and while it was really cool, took longer than we thought it would.
Got back to the house just on dark... was a beautiful sunset over the lake.
Heaps of cool cabbage trees dotted over the braken that we have to climb over to get down the hill. I'd hate to have to climb up it...

Great little adventure - the sheep guided us!

GY Jetty

Gorgeous morning sun and blue skies + Glenorchy mountains = lots of photos.

I have done well - from over 1 hundred to about 7 or 8. I have chosen the jetty ones for today.

I like the shapes in these two. Top: facing Glenorchy,
Below: looking at the mountains on the other side of the lake.

Up the Dart

Hubby took us for a ride today - was such a gorgeous afternoon!

Look who's got a new toy...

Amazing scenery but the sun was in front of us - have to go in the morning next time!
I kind of like the sun rays in this one - even if it does look over exposed

Mother Natures work of art. love it
